How to choose court booking software for a multi-sport venue
A buying scorecard for tennis, badminton, volleyball, basketball, and 5v5: revenue mix, who owns the player, and time-to-play. The wrong tool is a weekly tax.
This is a category buying guide, not a bake-off of named vendors. Use it to interrogate anyone — including Scoreline.
You run more than one sport under one roof, or you will. Tennis durations are not 5v5 durations. Badminton peak is not basketball peak. If the software thinks you are a single-purpose club, you will darken courts between format changes and staff will keep a side spreadsheet.
The scorecard (print this)
Score every option 0–2. Anything that cannot answer in a sentence scores 0.
Revenue mix
- Full-court and pick-up seats on the same zone with explicit rules (soft-hold, promote, displace), not a sticky note.
- Payments: connected account you own, fees you can napkin-math.
- Room to attach (store, sessions, optional video) without a second brand.
Who owns the player
- Player URL is yours (subdomain or custom domain), not a shared consumer home screen.
- You can see repeats without exporting a marketplace you do not control.
- Instagram / widget land on your book flow.
Time-to-play (UX)
- Mobile book in one sitting, no call required.
- Door identity (tap / wearable) so the desk is not the database.
- Honest status for holds and games — no bait “confirmed.”
Multi-sport ops
- Locations → zones → activities with different prices and durations.
- Unlimited staff seats so the floor is not one admin login.
- Kiosk / session as the record of what actually happened.
A facility OS that is white-label first will score like Scoreline’s wedge. A marketplace will score occupancy and fail ownership. A hybrid network will score fill and fail brand. See OS vs marketplace and network vs brand.
Cost of inaction
Staying on the wrong tool is not “good enough.” It is a weekly tax: dark courts, rented players, desk fights, mystery fees. Switching has a cost. So does another year of training the city to ignore your name.
Do not buy a memberships/camps fairy tale if that is not what is shipping. Ask what is live. Scoreline’s public live story is bookings + pick-up, NFC, kiosk sessions, payments, white-label; cameras/highlights and leagues on higher tiers. Roadmap is not a scorecard line.
Switch test in one meeting
Bring last month’s calendar, a phone, and a skeptical desk lead. Make the vendor:
- Book a full court and a pick-up seat on the same zone.
- Show the player-facing URL and whose logo is on it.
- Walk check-in without a clipboard.
- Write all-in cost at your volume.
If they cannot, you already know.
More on the roof itself: multi-sport complex software. Money shape: pricing models.
What you forfeit
You forfeit years of compounding ops knowledge — replaced by hero staff and side systems. Buy for the three pillars, not for a demo animation.
