Cameras and AI highlights: attach revenue and a reason to come back
When the hour ends with nothing to take home, the venue is forgettable. Session recording and clips are a second purchase and a habit loop — not a toy.
The game was good. Everyone dumps water, scrolls, leaves. There is no clip, no score that lives anywhere but someone’s notes app, no reason to open you on Wednesday except “we need a court again.” You sold time. You did not sell a memory. Memories are what make venues non-interchangeable.
Two jobs for video
- Attach revenue. A highlight the player can buy is a product on top of the hour. Usage fees should follow spend, not guilt.
- Recurring. People share clips. Sharing with your watermark / your platform is distribution you did not pay an ad network for.
If video is “maybe we’ll mount a GoPro,” you get neither job. If it is a session tied to the same game record as the kiosk, it can be an offer at checkout — not a hobby.
Scoreline’s Professional tier includes camera recording of game sessions and AI highlights with a flat per-session fee, plus included storage. Starter still has kiosk game sessions and scoring — the system of record — even before cameras. Do not wait for Hollywood production values to make play countable.
Cost of inaction
Without a take-home:
- You compete only on price and proximity.
- Instagram is staff filming with a phone (inconsistent, not productized).
- Players’ social proof promotes them, not your building.
You do not need fake ROI. You need honesty: if nothing leaves the court except sweat, you are a commodity gym with better lighting.
Switch test
- Revenue. Is there a SKU for the clip, with a fee model you can explain on a one-pager?
- Recurring. Does the clip loop them back to your site to rebook, or to a generic drive folder?
- UX. Is capture automatic with the session, or a volunteer with a tripod?
This only works if the rest of the hour is not miserable. Fix desk friction first; video will not save a chaotic door.
What you miss
You miss a reason to be chosen besides “the floor was open.” In a city full of courts, forgettable hours are how you stay on the comparison spreadsheet forever.
